Colnago V1-R Frameset
The V1-r is the new lightweight carbon aero road frame from Colnago designed in collaboration with Ferrari and made with the highest quality carbon fibre. The V1-r is Colnago’s first Aero Road frame with tubing profiles inspired by NACA aircraft airfoil wing designs. The tear drop shape has a truncated tail that gives a pronounced aerodynamic advantage without increasing susceptibility to crosswinds or sacrificing structural strength and lateral stiffness.
While the C60 continues Colnago’s lugged design concept the V1-r is created using a monocoque process that allows aerodynamic shaped tube sections and substantial weight reduction with a frame weight of 835g (52cm painted frame) and a 390g uncut fork weight.
All of the V1-r frame tubes, including the fork blades and the seat stays, have a special shape optimised in the wind tunnel to allow the V1 to cut through the wind as fast as possible.
The V1-r fork is a new concept designed for maximum structural support for the integrated front brake caliper with a double hole system is used to accommodate the direct mount brake. The aero profile of the frame is continued in the truncated teardrop shape of the fork tubes which allow tyres up to 28mm width to be fitted.
The V1-r is the first Colnago bike to use the direct mount braking system pioneered by Shimano in their Dura Ace 9000 groupsets. The streamlined design integrates with the fork to produce a rigid, powerful and aerodynamic brake caliper. For customers who choose to use Campagnolo or SRAM groupsets Colnago have produced their own direct mount calipers.
CARBON FRAME DROPOUTS
Another major innovation for the V1-r is the use of carbon fibre monocoque dropouts and an internal replaceable derailleur hanger giving a considerable weight reduction with greater structural strength.
For maximum integration and aerodynamics, Colnago offer the new V1-r with a dedicated 27.2mm aero seatpost for minimum wind resistance and maximum vibration absorption.
The V1-r uses the same oversized?ThreadFit 82.5mm?bottom bracket used on the C60. This?proprietary?design allows the use of wide section frame tubing for greater strength with minimal weight increase. Colnago believe that a standard pressfit bottom bracket offers manufacturers cheaper production methods, but leaves the consumer with a frame that is highly susceptible to creaking and impossible to repair once there is any wear in the frame bottom bracket enclosure. Their ingenious solution is to include a milled steel threaded sleeve that is inserted between the bottom bracket and the frame to simplifiy servicing and replacement in the event of wear.
The V1-r frame is approved by the International Cycling Union for use in all races recognised by the UCI. Immediately after launch it was ridden by Team Europcar in the 2014 Tour De France.
